Preventing Ingrown Hairs after Waxing at True Waxology in Walnut Creek

Ingrown hairs happen when a hair curls over and back onto itself and gets trapped under the skin. Your body’s response is redness and swelling. The bikini area is particularly prone to ingrown hair because hairs there don’t grow straight. Also there can be a lot of friction from clothing, which can cause irritation and bacteria growth. To help prevent bumps, your Waxologist will cleanse the area with an antiseptic cleanser before your waxing or sugaring treatment in Walnut Creek.  It also helps to avoid tight undergarments and wear breathable fabric such as cotton.

Our Waxologists advise you not to trim the bikini line before a wax. Some women are embarrassed about the length of the hair. Don’t be. You want at least three to four week’s growth so the wax will grip well. If it doesn’t, that can break hairs which will make ingrowns more likely.

Exfoliating is good but not the day of your appointment as it will make your skin too sensitive. After 48 hours, you can use a loofah a few times a week.

After your wax, a natural cleansing lotion infused with lavender essential oil is used to cleanse and soothe the skin. We also provide a few gentle chemical exfoliants like PFB Vanish and or Serious Serum to slough off dead skin cells.  After waxing in at true in Walnut Creek, your waxing professional will recommend an optimal aftercare routine.
